Video

A couple of years ago, Current ran a contest to make the music video for Common’s single, “Make My Day.” My homie, Jake, made this video in one sleepless weekend. I swanned around, smiled and bossed a bit and then promptly left the state for three days. When I got home, Jake was lying on the floor shaking from a caffeine overdose.

It’s stop-motion comprised of scores of photographs and animations of a Cee Lo/Common hybrid character that Jake created in Adobe Illustrator and After Effects. In addition to my largely self-directed role in the video, I was responsible for the styling and general look of the photo shoot. (Jake didn’t want to have nothing to do with my wardrobe.)

I wonder what happened to that towel. It’s an awesome color.

A gentleman friend sent this to me. I took it as a completely un-subtle hint. I’ll book a venue. Pronto.

Dear readers, I’m sorry. This is the second post about skateboarding in two weeks and I can feel you all shaking your heads and clicking the “close tab” whilst calling me a sellout.

I do not condone skateboarding. I never have, never will. It’s dangerous and nobody seems to realize the importance of protective gear or obeying the various “No Skateboarding” signs. I am a safety loving, architecture protecting, law biding citizen and the skating of boards goes against everything I believe in.

But those Mandible Claw boys let me sleep in their house on the weekends and are completely adorable so….

Visit them here. They are the future.

Apparently, grown men skateboard! I know, crazy, right?
Well, if you’re into that type of thing, I do suggest you take your butt to Brooklyn and check out the premiere (Spelling counts, Jacob Ireland!) of Mandible Claw’s video, 561 to NYC. Directed by the charming Colin Read, the film features skateboys from Stuart, FL (561!) all the way to the Big Apple.
Jacob designed the graphics, Colin filmed and edited and I would like to think that I was their inspiration.
