Number two, y’all!

I am officially waiting for Disclosure’s debut album, Settle. Just a couple of days ago I was maxin’ and relaxin’, just living my life waiting for The Great Gatsby to hit theatres, and then BOOM, I heard of Disclosure and BOOM, “You & Me (featuring Eliza Doolittle)” is my new favorite song.

The video makes me miss being young, broke and in love. Well, maybe not. Being youngish, bills-paid and in love is much better.

I’m going to start you off with a little something that I KNOW you have got to know by now.

My soul sisters, Janelle Monae and Erykah Badu, have gotten together and thrown me a little sonic party. Heavy on the bass and as Janelle says, “serving face.”

Honestly, this song is the only way I can imagine starting a party. You know the booty don’t lie.

Chris Kelly of 90’s best group ever, Kris Kross, is dead at age 34.

I honestly can’t tell you what a huge part of my childhood Kris Kross was.

Kelly, the browner of the two, was my personal favorite. I had the biiiigggggest crush on him— so much so that I went out of my way to emulate his inimitable backwards style. O_O (There are pictures somewhere.)

Chris Kelly, RIP.

Yesterday, I was celebrating my Sunday with the traditional music video watching marathon and I stumbled across this gem on vH1 Soul. “Alone Together” is the gorgeous single from the Manchester native’s EP, Those Who Wait. 2013 is starting off sweet….his debut album, Days and Nights will be released next month.

Totally watch this at work. It’s Friday. You’re allowed.

For today’s 1st installment of “WTF?!: The Music Video Edition” I give you Flaming Lips and Erykah Badu “The First time I Ever Saw Your Face”
NSFW or ever, depending on how much you can stand to be creeped out.
June 11, UPDATE: Apparently, Erykah didn’t like the video either and it has since been pulled from Vimeo. Read her statement here.

A couple of years ago, Current ran a contest to make the music video for Common’s single, “Make My Day.” My homie, Jake, made this video in one sleepless weekend. I swanned around, smiled and bossed a bit and then promptly left the state for three days. When I got home, Jake was lying on the floor shaking from a caffeine overdose.

It’s stop-motion comprised of scores of photographs and animations of a Cee Lo/Common hybrid character that Jake created in Adobe Illustrator and After Effects. In addition to my largely self-directed role in the video, I was responsible for the styling and general look of the photo shoot. (Jake didn’t want to have nothing to do with my wardrobe.)

I wonder what happened to that towel. It’s an awesome color.
